Licensing Options

To accommodate the font needs of everyone, from sole graphic designers to worldwide enterprises, Monotype offers the following licensing models.  You can review the license agreements covering your fonts when checking out by clicking the license documents link on the “Enter Billing Details” page or on the family page under "License Information"

Standard End User License

A Standard User License is issued with individual font purchases. Standard end user licenses are best suited for individuals and small organizations or in instances when only a limited number of individuals will need access to a desired typeface. Most standard end user licenses license a font for use on up to five CPUs and one printer within an organization. However, terms may vary depending on the agreement. The license that is issued is determined by the font foundry or designer that supplied the font to Monotype. Some suppliers license fonts through their own end user license agreement (EULA). Most suppliers license fonts through the basic EULA.

Extended Multi-User License

Extended Multi-User License Agreements are arranged either for a predetermined number of users (larger than five) or for an entire site. The cost is based on the number of users. The Extended Multi-User License is a perfect way to implement a font throughout an entire department or mid-sized company.

Tanween Type Library Subscription

Tanween Library Subscription provides access to a selection of fonts for use on websites with CSS @font-face. New and legacy plans include the option to self-host, and access to desktop fonts. Font delivery from our content delivery network is available through older legacy plans.  The price of a plan is determined by its pageview allowance and other features included.

Digital Ad License

A digital ad license allows use of a font within banner ads or ads that are displayed in Web or mobile applications. When purchasing your digital ad license, you specify the number of impressions your campaign will require. If you’re uncertain how many impressions you will need, you can purchase a small allotment and true up at the end of the month. Upon purchasing your license, you can download an ad kit containing Web font versions of the typefaces you licensed. You can upload your ad kit onto your ad network or embed the fonts directly into your ads.

Mobile App License

A mobile app license permits the embedding of a font into the iOS, Android or Windows Phone mobile platforms for a single title and a set number of app installations. You can view and modify the installation limit from the cart. App installations can be spread out across the platforms your app is available for. A new license is not required to cover updates to an app, however installations of newer versions of your app do count toward your installation limit.

Electronic Publication (ePub) License

An electronic publication license can be used for the embedding of fonts into electronic documents including e-books, e-magazines and e-newspapers. A license covers only a single title but is valid for the full operating life of that title. Every issue of an e-magazine, e-newspaper or other form of e-periodical is considered a separate, new publication. Format variations do not count as separate publications. If a publication is updated and distributed to existing users, a new license is not required. However, updated versions issued to new customers are defined as new publications and require a separate license.

Server License

Server licenses authorize the installation of a font on a server that is accessed by remote users or website visitors. These licenses are commonly used by Web-based businesses providing goods that are personalized by its users such as business cards, images with captions and personalized merchandise. Users are not allowed to download the font file and the font may not be used outside the server environment. The font may not be employed for a software as a service (SaaS) application in which the service is the actual product and not the means of providing the product. Server licenses cover a set number of CPU cores on production servers (development servers are not counted) on which the font is installed. The license is valid for 1 year.
